Me:
What brings you to counseling?
Him:
My wife made me come.
Me:
Oh? So are you here for you or your wife?
Him:
She sent me with a list of things I need to fix.
If you need your husband (or wife) to be the Mary Poppins of spouses (practically perfect in every way) you are in trouble. Beware of the laundry list of reasons why he isn't being the partner you need him to be. This list is often masking the much deeper marital issues that are often too painful to admit.
